• UTAU: I am not an UTAU expert, so UTAU projects will take a little longer to complete.

※ REGARDING LYRICS FOR CONTESTS & ANNIVERSARIES

• If you are considering possibly commissioning me for Japanese lyrics for a contest (ex: Magical Mirai) or anniversary collaboration event, please contact me as soon as you know the start/end dates.
• Even if you don’t end up commissioning me, I would like to be aware a lyric commission might occur so I can plan my schedule.
• Be aware my commission time frame is somewhere between 4 days to 2 weeks for completion, so please plan for both my translation time and time for yourself to tune/mix/master.

1) PLEASE PREPARE

FOR ORIGINAL JAPANESE LYRICS BY UNCREEPY:

1. Tell me which voice bank you are going to use so I can select the same one or use a similar voice.
2. A wav file of the background music.
3. A MIDI file OR vocal synth file (ex: VSQx) that I can input hiragana lyrics into.
4. Inspirational material (a title idea, general song theme, pictures, or links to reference songs) if you have any.

FOR EXISTING ENGLISH LYRICS TO JAPANESE LYRICS:

1. A document with the original English lyrics.
2. Tell me which voice bank you are going to use so I can select the same one or use a similar voice.
3. A wav file of the background music.
4. A MIDI file OR vocal synth file (ex: VSQx) that I can input hiragana lyrics into.
5. A link to the original English version of the song if it has been published (for me to use as a reference).

FOR DOUBLE-CHECKING EXISTING JAPANESE LYRICS:

1. A document with your Japanese lyrics.
2. Tell me what voice bank you intend to use so that I can use the same character or pick one with a similar voice.
3. A .wav file of the background music.
4. A MIDI file OR vocal synthesizer format song file that I can use to fill hiragana lyrics into.

2) CONTACT

• Contact me about your commission request.
  • NOTE: I work on multiple commissions at once and rotate working on them through the day.
  • Expect the commission to take somewhere between 4 days to 2 weeks for completion.

3) PAYMENT

• After agreeing to the details, I will send you a PayPal invoice to be paid within 10 days. (I require payment up front before starting commissions.)
  • If you are unhappy with the commission process, we can discuss a partial refund based on how close the translation was to completion.

4) TRANSLATION PROCESS

• I will create a shared Google Document so that you can check on the progress of your translation at any time (Google Documents show text being written in real-time).
• When the translation reaches the point of being half-finished, I will send you a message summarizing what is left to translate, an estimate of how much time it will probably take, and an audio clip of the progress.
• When the 1st draft is complete, I will check in with you and send an audio clip again.
• After you approve of this 1st draft version, I will schedule to meet with my Japanese editor for proofreading and inform you of the time/day. I will send the final version of the translation and vocal synth file (ex: VSQx) on the same day or the next day.

5) REVISIONS

• The commissioner is heavily involved in the translation process (being sent progress updates and having access to the Google Document), there should be no need for revisions after the commission is finished.
• I use part of the commission funds to pay my Japanese editor for proofreading my work. Having to go back and schedule time and pay my editor again is an unreasonable request for me. This proofreading process is planned to only be done once per commission.
• Do not add to or edit my translations after completion with text created through machine translation (ex: Google Translate). Machine translations do not understand context, often confuse vocabulary with multiple definitions, and can not provide the correct level of politeness for business communications. Translation is an art in the form of literature and can not be replicated through today’s technology.
  • If you break this rule and edit the translation after completion, please remove any mentions of my name from the project, as I can not guarantee it is natural Japanese anymore and do not endorse it.

6) PROMOTION

• If you notify me when the work is ready to go public, I will promote your commission on my Lyric Examples page and Twitter account.
• TWITTER: In addition to linking to YouTube/Spotify/Bandcamp/niconico in your comment, you can create an mp4 up to 2 minutes & 20 seconds (see reference Tweet). This is more eye-catching than simply linking to a YouTube thumbnail, because Twitter mp4s auto play and keep track of the number of plays.
